For weeks I had been practicing my breathing exercises. Every time I thought about it, my heart started beating faster and faster until I eventually ended up dancing in my living room floor. I call this my happy dance, and if any of you remember the show that used to air on tv called Ally McBeal, it remotely resembles the little dance that the dancing baby performed on that show. This happy dance has been performed by me in my living room floor (and I think even in the middle of MTSU’s College of Business courtyard) many times by me over the past month!
But finally the day came! The day came that me, my husband Scott, and one of my dearest friends Meagan were to board a plane headed to Albuquerque, New Mexico! Meagan was shouting her “YAY!” every day while I performed my happy dance and screamed, “WOO HOO!” every single time we thought about it. We were seriously counting down the days. Ever single day seemed to drag on and on, until finally it was time!
Scott and I didn’t start packing until the day before we were to fly out. We didn’t really finish packing until midnight on Thursday night. We flew out on Frontier Airlines from Nashville to Denver, and our connection in Denver took us on to Albuquerque. Our flight was scheduled to leave Nashville at 5:45 am. This meant we had to be at the airport by 4:00 am… which also meant that we had to leave our house by 3:00 am. WHEW! I’m tired again, just thinking about this. But at midnight the night before our flight departed, I made the executive decision that three hours of sleep would only be a tease to me. So I decided to just stay up all night long. Boy was this a mistake.
We arrived in Albuquerque at 11:00 am local time, and I was exhausted. But no matter how exhausted I was, I was still screaming out my WOO HOOS’s and Meagan was still screaming out her YAY’s. Although I will have to say that my happy dance was only performed in my head at this point. After getting off the plane, collecting our luggage, and getting our rental car, we decided that we would go straight to the hotel and check in before meeting my friends Danny and Michelle (who live in Albuquerque) for lunch. But when we got to the hotel, we were turned away and told to come back after 3:00 pm because we couldn’t check in before then. I have to admit that my spirits dropped just a tad at this point.
So the three of us hopped back into the car and went to WalMart where we bought a few necessary items (which included a box fan so that we could sleep with it at night and drown out the sound of me and Scott snoring which would surely keep Meagan awake). We then met up with Danny and Michelle for lunch at Garduno’s (I think I spelled that right) in Albuquerque. We couldn’t wait to eat some authentic mexican food. Well let me tell you… we ate so much food that we were ready to throw up. My mouth was on fire from all the seeds inside the salsa that was served. The sopapillas were delicious with honey. And with our bellys overstuffed, and the lack of sleep, we decided to skip the balloon shape glow that we had planned to shoot at the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Fiesta that night. We went straight to the hotel, plugged up that box fan, and slept until 5:30 am the next morning. IT WAS AMAZING!
I’m sorry I don’t have any photos to share with you from this first day. But we were so exhausted. I didn’t even take my camera out of my bag until the next morning. Luckily my battery was fully charged, because 5:30 am came very early, and we did not return to the hotel until really late. But more about day two (with plenty of photos to share) next post! I hope you will stay tuned into this amazing 10 day photography adventure that I took in New Mexico.
LATER PEEPS!
